8.20 Axis overload

 

Axis overloads can be two kinds

1)      The breaker tripping

2)      Servo drive which sensed over current in the drive

 The breaker trips

1)      Check whether the motor takes more current. If it does not and if the breaker still trips, then the breaker is bad.

2)      If it does, check the mechanics – Refer to the mechanics section

3)      If the mechanics is OK – Refer to the servo section. It is most probably in the motor or cabling of the motor. By doing a meggar test both motor and cable should be tested.

 Servo drive which sensed over current in the drive

1)      Check whether the motor takes more current, if it does not take high current, check the drive

2)      If it does take high current check the mechanics

3)      If mechanics is ok check the motor – refer to motor section

4)      If motor is ok check the power cables and the velocity feedback device or pulse coder. Refer to feedback devices section

  Last Issue :   The machine 24V was shorting out while running only.   It is a 10 Amp breaker. There is no short on 24V. How do you go about troubleshooting this type of shorting out problem?

Answer - Found out while running several contactor come on. In this case it was happening while Coolant came on. Used a separate 24V PSU to feed the coolant contactors and the problem still continued. Finally, found out the float switch in the transfer tank was shorting out. There were literally more than a couple of hundred wires with 24V going to it. By using a current limiting PS, we could sore this out in a day.
